Ascertaining the cause of maladaptation, therefore, the psychoanalytic study is necessary. In this research, the writer analyzes the character of Danny Boodman, T.D. Lemon 1900 and his drastic decision in life. The writer used the qualitative method. The writer focuses on the theory of five basic human needs proposed by Erich Fromm. Moreover, according to the findings, people who do not meet Fromm's five essential human needs will struggle to lead everyday lives. According to Fromm, there are two ways to resolve the existential dilemma: to progress or to regress to the mother's love and its evolutionary equivalent, a symbiotic relationship with the mother. It attempts to reconstruct the philosophical tradition of affective alterity and to construct its theory. Homosexuality is affective alterity, love between Thou and I. In the article, there are explored the dynamic religions in their openness to the Other with an emphasis on Judaism and the >love the stranger< postulate in the Hebrew Bible, to biblical and rabbinical literature as well as Erich Fromm's and Julia Kristeva's psychoanalytic interpretations of them. The idea of hospitality, rooted in the Bible and the Koran, was revived by Jacques Derrida, Julia Kristeva, Griselda Pollock and Geoffrey H. Hartman. It is of urgent importance in Poland where the fundamentalist misogyny and homophobia increase. In the paper, queer rights are examined as human rights, and this is again pertinent to Eastern Europe. The methodology of the intersection of cultural analysis and Jewish studies here are inspired by Ernst van Alphen, Mieke Bal, Christina von Braun and Griselda Pollock. A particular connection between Jewisheness and queerness is stressed by Daniel Boyarin, Ann Pelegrini and Alisa Solomon; as the authors write, it is to be found in today's Poland in the Shterndlech Iton Babel magazine published by the younger generation. Also, the feminist studies of Maria Janion, Kazimiera Szczuka and Bozena Uminska are of significance here. In other words, it is the mark which separates its existence from the rest of the group. According to Fromm, the process of individuality begins at infancy level when the child is separated from the mother. This then takes an emotional toll on the child as he suffers from loneliness and anxiety which stem from the prior separation. The child will henceforth acquire his individuality through the process of socialization which requires constant interaction with people in his life. For this paper, we have selected a novel, Faggots, authored by Larry Kramer, to be the main text for our research. This article argues that the characters in the text are conflicted with feelings of anxiety and loneliness as they embark on respective quest to eradicate the feeling of loneliness by looking for a potential life partner. However, these characters go through a series of promiscuous relationships by living an active sexual lifestyle on the ground that they are in search of the >right< one. Therefore, this paper will look into the sadistic and masochistic (sometimes both; otherwise known as sadomasochistic) tendency practiced by the characters in the novel in their quest to reclaim their lost individuality. Since the sixth century BC, when the human undertook a systematic and critical contemplation upon surrounding reality, she/he has begun to dream about political rulers to be guided in their doings by the imperative of reason. In principal, the higher level of spiritual culture characterized the rulers, the more likely their subjects were to live to a great age in relative peace. That is why for centuries it has been dreamed of a political system that is something like a kind of a sophocracy. The most complete picture of such a sovereign, which fulfilled dreams about a sage in the crown, was outlined by Plato in his State. In his point of view, as long as the lovers of wisdom will not have royal power in the states, or the rulers will not begin to love wisdom honestly, there is no help for states and for the human race. Nevertheless, over the centuries, authority was enforced mainly by physical strength and not by reason. It was not until the twentieth century that democracy brought freedom and equality of rights, thanks to which political power became more rational. Unfortunately, also contemporary liberal democracy is not free from fundamental contradictions that can bring about its collapse. The main contradiction is the increasingly smaller influence of citizens - who in the theory of democracy are the only legal sovereign - on political decision-making. This is accompanied by the enhancing influence of entities with no democratic legitimacy, e.g. global corporations that do not care about the common (public) good, but only about their own. These entities use the growing intellectual and ethical weakness of democratic politicians whose purpose is their own particular interest and not the happiness (good) of their citizens. This may indicate a slow system disintegration. For this reason liberal democracy needs politicians who are wise enough to realize this threat. Of all the people in the history of the world who led political communities, to the Platonic ideal in the highest degree (among others, like T. G. Masaryk and {\´A}. G{\"o}ncz) got closer the man who, paradoxically, never wanted to be a ruler. V{\´a}clav Havel's thought is a critique of both Soviet post-totalitarianism and Western democracy. In his opinion both systems, though to a different degree, alienate a human trying to reduce her/him to the role of a machine's cog. Havel proposes that every citizen take individual and global responsibility for herself/himself and the whole world, because only in this way she/he can consciously exert real influence over political decisions. What is more, this is the only way to build a politics that aims - if possible - the happiness of every person. Havel realizes that in today's world this attitude is extremely impractical and very difficult to apply in everyday life. Nevertheless, he knows no better possibility.}, language = {pl} } @article{Kiyoshi, author = {Kiyoshi, Mahito}, title = {フランクルをフロムと対話させる試み清眞人 [Attempt to Image a Frankl's Dialog with Fromm]}, series = {全人的医療 [Comprehensive Medicine], Vol. 20, No. 1 (2020), pp. 53-67. doi.org/10.32183/ifcm.20.1_53]}, journal = {全人的医療 [Comprehensive Medicine], Vol. 20, No. 1 (2020), pp. 53-67. doi.org/10.32183/ifcm.20.1_53]}, abstract = {私がここで試みるのは,フランクルとフロムとの対話を想像することである. 生き生きした豊かな応答関係の再生,これこそ今日の精神的課題である,と.}, language = {ja} } @article{KoeseKazan, author = {K{\"o}se, H{\"u}seyin and Kazan, Fahrunnisa}, title = {Sağl{\i}kl{\i} Toplum'dan Sağl{\i}ğ{\i}n Gasp{\i}'na Sağl{\i}ğ{\i}n Kuramsal Betimleni{\c{s}}i ve Medyada >Sağl{\i}kl{\i} Toplum< İmgesi [From >The Sane Society< to >Medical Nemesis< Theoretical Description of Health and Image of >Healthy Society< in the Media]}, series = {Ulakbilge - Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi, Vol. 5, No. 18 (2017), pp. 2205-2230. Yet the era of Postmodernism taught us mainly the relativism of multitudes of values, standards and paradigms. It made us used to >it all depends< approach. Many popular methods of describing architecture are based on analysing it in a historical or cultural context. This paper, however, proposes a perspective that refers to human needs which have arguably been universal for all the people in all historical periods in all cultures. This perspective could be useful particularly while dealing with big contemporary issues of >commons< in architecture - togetherness, ecology, common places and agendas. This paper proposes a framework based on the school of >positive psychology< and in particular on the unappreciated father of the Frankfurt School and critical theory - Erich Fromm who worked all his life on his comprehensive >theory of needs<. This paper proposes translating the concepts of this theory into architectural analyses and narrative. If we are to understand the essence of >commons<, we need to refer to people's common needs. These are the key concepts of Fromm's model. This paper is structured around what Fromm described as three basic, common needs: freedom, creativity and love. The psychotherapeutic path was marked by a set of characters - real and fictional - that revealed his split functioning. In the plots Pedro created, he used the evil characters of any given movie saga in order to express himself. Like a dream, these narratives functioned as metaphors and metonyms, where the condensed forces of evil took over the symptom - which brings us to psychosis - while the good side, represented by an isolated and unprotected figure with which Pedro identified, revealed the displaced material of his unconscious desire. Although the psychotic parts of Pedro's personality had been rehabilitated and integrated, his mental functioning remained marked by dissociation with reality, linked to the psychotic dysfunctionality. Employing (post)modern, social psychology, and psychoanalytic theories of Zygmunt Bauman, Erich Fromm, Jean Baudrillard, and Gilles Lipovetsky, it analyzes the construction of Gladney's character through his social roles as professor, husband, and consumer in the narrow sense of the word in order to deduce that his consumerist practices have spread to all aspects of his life. This reading reveals a new interpretation of Gladney's fear of death; it shows that Gladney's thanatophobia represents a consequence of his atheistic worldview. Namely, unable to find a haven in religion, he unsuccessfully seeks the meaning of life and death elsewhere, mainly in consumerism, which is identified as the source of his alienation from himself, people, and God. This paper suggests that numerous problems of postmodern life are caused by the lack of faith in God and proposes a conclusion that religion itself could be the answer to the difficulties faced by postmodern individuals with fragmented identities such as Jack Gladney.}, language = {mul} } @article{Medow, author = {Medow, Mathilde}, title = {Opplysningstidens humanistiske idealer og matematisk {\o}konomi}, series = {E. Erich Fromm, as a Freudian theorist and clinician, is uniquely positioned to address these issues. Fromm is a politically radical thinker who can help psychoanalysis think about society and social injustice beyond the clinical context while avoiding the dangers of excessively orthodox left-wing thinking that risks taking the field away from its core mission. Fromm can help psychoanalysis avoid what we are calling the >Peterson problem,< which is partly the result of provocative and extreme ideas in institutions and psychoanalytic publications that create reputational problems for the field. The >Peterson problem< brings new attention to the political bias of left-liberal authoritarians inside the profession, who focus on changing society rather than healing individuals and neglect audiences outside the liberal university and highly educated classes and thus create space for polarizing figures like psychologist Jordan Peterson to fill the gap. Peterson's fame and influence serves as a lightning rod for the wider critique of left leaning political and cultural currents in psychoanalysis. Fromm can act as a role model as well as provide the intellectual resources for responding to these challenges.}, language = {en} } @misc{Meier, author = {Meier, J{\"u}rgen}, title = {Review Funk, R.: Die Lebensschulwe des Erich Fromm. This study aims to find out the concept of love according to Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah, the concept of love according to Erich Fromm, as well as knowing the similarities and differences between the two characters regarding the concept of love. The method used in this study is a comparative qualitative literature study. The steps taken in data processing are hermeneutics, analys content, and comparability. From the results of the study concluded that love is to erase everything in the heart except the one who is loved. Love is an active force that resides within that is able to break down the dividing wall between humans and each other, and is a union with each other without merging the integrity and uniqueness of each individual. Ibn Qayyim divided love into four, namely loving Allah, love who are loved by Allah, love for Allah and because Allah, and love for things other than Allah. Whereas Erich Fromm divided it into five objects, namely fellow love, mother's love, erotic love, self-love, and love for God. The equation obtained is that the two figures discussed love more humanely and argued that love is the main element in the universe that is most important for human life, because without love human would wade through a dark and suffering life. The differences obtained are found in the factors causing love. Ibn Qayyim argued that the factors that cause love to arise are from positive things. While Fromm argued that the factor of love arises from humans who experience alienation and isolation in their lives.}, language = {mul} } @article{MesquitaFrancodaSilva, author = {Mesquita, Isabel and Franco da Silva, Carolina}, title = {The psychoanalytic process and self-transcendence}, series = {International Forum of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 31 (No. 2, 2022), pp. 094-099.}, journal = {International Forum of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 31 (No. 2, 2022), pp. 094-099.}, abstract = {This article intends to reflect on some aspects of psychoanalytic theory and practice, to help psychoanalysis evolve.
