Therefore, we chose to analyze Enescu's >Œdipe< and Stravinsky's >Oedipus Rex<. Two distinct methodologies were used in our study. The first explored the concept of free association through musical themes in the operas. The second involved the comparative study of the Oedipus myth in order to provide a deeper understanding of Oedipus's character. We observed that Oedipus displayed symptoms of his complex through the traits of aggressiveness and arrogance. Moreover, we noticed that Oedipus was compelled by the necessity of finding out who his real parents were and by unconsciously accomplishing the prophecy. Oedipus assumed the responsibility to free the Thebans from plague. Yet, it was too late, for the feared part of the prophecy was already accomplished. He provided a wrong answer to the Sphinx and then received the most severe punishment, one that would have ostracism as its outcome. It was, however, not too late for Oedipus to finally discover who his real parents were. Nevertheless, afraid of losing his place as King of Thebes, he investigated the plague's causes. This resulted in his aggression as he resisted discovering >where babies come from.<}, language = {en} } @article{Zhouetal, author = {Zhou, Quan and et al.,}, title = {On the Essence of >Symbol Consumption< from >Brand Effect< [从>品牌效应<看>符号消费<本质]}, series = {China Newspaper Industry [中国报业], No. 14 (2017), pp. 16-18.}, journal = {China Newspaper Industry [中国报业], No. 14 (2017), pp. 16-18.}, abstract = {符号消费的本质是一种文化消费,是一种把消费与文化体验挂钩、标榜消费者个人或群体身份认同和社会地位的一种消费方式。本文从符号消费现象形成的时代原因、心理机制、消费弊端入手,分析如何应对符号消费,并借鉴弗洛姆和马尔库塞的观点以及自己的感悟,提出相关建议。}, language = {zh} } @article{Lerneretal, author = {Lerner, Max and et al.,}, title = {Will Russia's Abolition of the Comintern Help Win the Peace?}, series = {Town Meeting. Based on a dyadic systems view in which the system is defined by both self- and interactive-regulation processes, we argue that characteristic patterns of self and interactive regulation form early interaction structures, which provide an important basis for emerging self and object representations. What will be represented, presymbolically, is the dynamic interactive process itself, the interplay, as each partner influences the other from moment to moment. This is a dynamic, process view of >interactive< or >dyadic< representations. The argument that early interaction structures organize experience is based on a transformational model in which there are continuous transformations and restructurings, where development is in a constant state of active reorganization. To define the capacities on which a presymbolic representational capacity is based, we review the last decade's research on infant perception and memory, which has radically changed our concepts of representation. The interaction structures we describe illustrate the salience of arousal, affect, space, and time in the early organization of experience: (1) state transforming, the expectation that an arousal state can be transformed through the contribution of the partner (2) facial mirroring, the expectation of matching and being matched in the direction of affective change (3) disruption and repair, the expectation of degree of ease and rapidity of interactive repair following facial-visual mismatches (4) >chase and dodge,< the expectation of the misregulation and derailment of spatial-orientation patterns, without repair and (5) interpersonal timing, the expectation of degree of vocal rhythm matching.}, language = {en} } @article{Beebeetal, author = {Beebe, Beatrice and et al.,}, title = {Homophobia in psychoanalytic writing and practice. We propose that an integration of explicit/linguistic with implicit/nonverbal theories of intersubjectivity is essential to a deeper understanding of therapeutic action in psychoanalysis today. To shed light on an implicit/nonverbal dimension of intersubjectivity in psychoanalysis, we include concepts from adult psychoanalysis, infant research, developmental systems theories, and nonverbal communication, particularly the distinction between implicit processing out of awareness and explicit processing at the declarative/verbal level. The term forms of intersubjectivity, within the adult explicit and implicit modes and the infant presymbolic implicit mode, is offered to clarify the multiple meanings of intersubjectivity. The ideas of infant intersubjectivity of Meltzoff, Trevarthen, and Stern that have particular relevance for psychoanalysis are highlighted: the dialogic origin of mind, the role of correspondences, and the idea that symbolic forms of intersubjectivity are built on presymbolic forms. We build on their work to define a fourth position: that the full range of patterns of interactive regulation provides the broadest definition of the presymbolic origins of intersubjectivity, with correspondence being only one of many critical patterns. We illustrate the model with a specific case of a three-year-old boy who developed a gender identity disorder in reaction to his mother's depression after she had an abortion. We describe how the temperament of the child, his reaction to a psychic trauma during a sensitive period of mental representational development, and multigenerational transmission of psychodynamics lead to a gender identity disorder. We view the cross-gender fantasy as a compromise formation for the management of separation anxiety and aggression, and we view its enactment in behavior, in part, as a defensive attempt to understand an unmetabolizable experience of aggression. We contend that the dynamics of marginality are crucial to the history of psychoanalysis, a discipline that has moved between dominant and marginal positions. We address psychoanalytic marginality via three specific >cases<: the marginalization among Freud and his followers when psychoanalysis was an emergent discipline; the marginality trope in Erich Fromm's popular psychoanalytic writing when psychoanalysis was orthodoxy in American academic psychiatry; and the rhetorical marginality of psychoanalysis in Sweden as psychoanalysis entered a decline within psychiatry. Whereas much current psychosocial theory stresses how anxieties are managed by defending the self against the world or fuel subjection to oppressive social norms, the theories we engage with here point to ways in which anxieties can be employed in the urge to bridge inner longings and external realities. These ideas took form in the early Frankfurt School, which despite their comprehensive integration of psychoanalytic and social theory until recently has been comparatively marginalized in Anglophone Psychosocial Theory.- The chapter presents and discusses three notions: Erich Fromm's Freedom, Hans Loewald's Resonance, and Alfred Lorenzer's Interaction. Even though different in emphasis and outlook, these notions contribute to a shared intellectual project, namely, to point to potentially productive and non-antagonist interactions between the psyche and society. They do so not by virtue of some resistant part of unspoiled nature residing in the body or in the mind, but by virtue of being able to point to the more or less life-enhancing and life-impeding forms this interaction of psychic energies and societal needs may take.- We argue that these theorists and their notions of freedom, resonance and interaction, contribute to further developing the materialist conception of the psychosocial in ways that appear specifically urgent today. They enable us to theorize tensions within current society, between dynamics that drive instrumentalization and reification on the one hand, and more life-enhancing and mutually enriching interactions between human beings, social structures, and natural environments on the other.}, language = {en} } @article{Hwangetal, author = {Hwang, Soo-Min and et al.,}, title = {웰라 컬렉션에 나타난 헤어디자인 트렌드 분석연구2014년에서 2018년까지 [Analysis of Hairstyling Trends in the Wella Collection: From 2014 to 2018] [application of Fromm's theories to art]}, series = {한국인체미용예술학회지 [Journal of Korean Society of Aesthetic Art], Vol. 19, No. 4 (2018) pp. 187-199.}, journal = {한국인체미용예술학회지 [Journal of Korean Society of Aesthetic Art], Vol. 19, No. 4 (2018) pp. 187-199.}, abstract = {Entering the 21st century, new cultural trends have been formed after changes in social perception and the environment. Social psychologist Erich Seligmann Fromm proposed that 'the ability to predict the future and express subjects and acts in diverse ideas' is an attribute that makes humans different from animals. There are very diverse ways and views to predict trends and experts from individual fields can predict trends by studying related laws. These trends can be viewed as a phenomenon that expresses the emotions and personality that exist in people's consciousness. In modern society, people want to create trendy and unique styles, using diverse elements and design factors by escaping from a conventional concept of beauty. Humans design and develop new tools that are both esthetic and functional through harmony between art and science. In fashion, art and cosmetology, trendy collections are suggested annually by predicting trends in advance. New and diverse trends that differ from past trends are always pursued. With the development of mass media, furthermore, trends have become a large issue around the globe. Hairstyling is closely related to trend so that there should be continued studies on new trends. Therefore, this study investigated hairstyle trends in the Wella Collection from 2014 to 2018. Evaluation: This paper draws upon the philosophies of Fromm, Foucault, and Deleuze and Guattari to critically review the functions of nurse leaders within a capitalist paradigm. Key issue: Key emergent issues in the paper include health care and capitalism and the nurse leader's obligations towards advocacy. Conclusion: The nurse leader acts as parrh{\`e}sia in viewing truth telling as a duty critical to improving the lives of patients. By doing so, one can change their psychological state in terms of character and psychological tendencies, leading to an improved moral life and higher moral standards. While some criticisms have been raised about virtue theory, including its perceived inability to guide one on how to act properly, Fromm's virtue ethics is unique in that it does not focus on establishing universal rules for specific actions. Instead, it seeks to establish universal laws for human behavioural tendencies or trends. Through his unique social psychology, Fromm provides an in-depth analysis of the inner world of man, which can serve as a valuable guide to the general direction of human development and freedom. In addition, Fromm's virtue ethics also highlights the importance of social relationships and the impact they have on our moral development. He argues that our relationships with others can have a profound effect on our psychological state and our ability to live virtuously. The given article addresses these issues exemplified by the dialogue in letters between E. Fromm and S. Freud. It investigates the difference between the two philosophers' views on the problems of rationalism and irrationalism, free will, good and evil in human nature, the specificity of human aggressiveness, and the relationship between the conscious and the unconscious. The article also examines the similarities and differences in the ways the thinkers approach the problem of human fear, the role of childhood in a person's adult life, manifestations of narcissism, the correlation of biological and social factors in the process of character formation, the nature of dreams in their works. In most cases, Fromm's position, focused on >libidinal charm<, is recognized by Fromm as limited and supplemented by spirituality and sociality. At the same time, in a number of cases, Fromm's criticism is mild, and sometimes it shows strong, justified disagreement with Freud. It is noted that the dialogue of thinkers is interesting as highly intellectual communication on universal human issues, clearly reflecting the personal and scientific portraits of the authors for a modern researcher in the field of psychology, philosophy, sociology, and theoretical and practical education. There is a stated methodological value of the dialogue in question: through the opportunity offered to a reader to identify the correctness of the methods used: a) meaningful comparison of scientific positions; b) interpretation of quotes of the criticized opponent; c) defining the opponent's consideration as incomplete, unreasonably narrow, not reflecting the magnitude of the object under consideration; d) exposing the narrowed analysis perspective of the criticized author in a new integrity; e) analysis of the possibilities of applying the law of the excluded middle to particular cases; f) the possibility, based on a logical-meaningful synthesis, to identify those problems that have escaped the notice of the criticizing author.}, language = {en} } @article{Mujicaetal, author = {Mujica, Ernesto and et al.,}, title = {When the body speaks: A case discussion of bodily manifestations of introjection and identification with the aggressor}, series = {International Forum of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 34 (No. 1, 2025), pp. 037-046.}, journal = {International Forum of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 34 (No. 1, 2025), pp. 037-046.}, abstract = {This paper provides an analysis of the patient's somatic experiences and fantasies during the psychoanalytic psychotherapy of childhood relational trauma. The present text discusses, through Freud's conceptualization of >object,< the process leading to a possible objectification of mankind in consumerist societies. Later, Hegelian arguments are also used in an effort to differentiate >object of consumption< and >object of desire,< which are often interpreted as synonyms. Finally, contemporary authors are brought to the discussion to reflect on the effects of this confusion on contemporary subjects and their possible objectification. One might ask, then, whether the logic of consumption offers the illusion of omnipotence that places man in the position of master, that is, the illusion of independent consciousness. But isn't the individual actually being enslaved? Thus, from the reading of Hegel, Freud, and Žižek, we think that this is what transforms the subjects dominated by consumerism into objects of consumption themselves. Fromm identifies a creative, non-alienated character orientation that includes a 'humanistic conscience'. Comparing authoritarian and humanistic consciences, he emphasises human potential and social and individual interdependence. Personal development must also drive social change, and vice versa.
