Background: The US health care system works in opposition to core nursing values. Nurse leaders are obliged to advocate for the preservation of ethical care delivery. Evaluation: This paper draws upon the philosophies of Fromm, Foucault, and Deleuze and Guattari to critically review the functions of nurse leaders within a capitalist paradigm. Key issue: Key emergent issues in the paper include health care and capitalism and the nurse leader's obligations towards advocacy. Conclusion: The nurse leader acts as parrh{\`e}sia in viewing truth telling as a duty critical to improving the lives of patients. Ramifications of the decisions by those in power have even greater impact in institutions that serve those with little to no political agency. Implications for Nursing Management: The nurse leader has a freedom and platform that their patients do not and must take the courageous risk of choosing to speak. By doing so, one can change their psychological state in terms of character and psychological tendencies, leading to an improved moral life and higher moral standards. While some criticisms have been raised about virtue theory, including its perceived inability to guide one on how to act properly, Fromm's virtue ethics is unique in that it does not focus on establishing universal rules for specific actions. Instead, it seeks to establish universal laws for human behavioural tendencies or trends. Through his unique social psychology, Fromm provides an in-depth analysis of the inner world of man, which can serve as a valuable guide to the general direction of human development and freedom. In addition, Fromm's virtue ethics also highlights the importance of social relationships and the impact they have on our moral development. He argues that our relationships with others can have a profound effect on our psychological state and our ability to live virtuously. The given article addresses these issues exemplified by the dialogue in letters between E. Fromm and S. Freud. It investigates the difference between the two philosophers' views on the problems of rationalism and irrationalism, free will, good and evil in human nature, the specificity of human aggressiveness, and the relationship between the conscious and the unconscious. The article also examines the similarities and differences in the ways the thinkers approach the problem of human fear, the role of childhood in a person's adult life, manifestations of narcissism, the correlation of biological and social factors in the process of character formation, the nature of dreams in their works. In most cases, Fromm's position, focused on >libidinal charm<, is recognized by Fromm as limited and supplemented by spirituality and sociality. At the same time, in a number of cases, Fromm's criticism is mild, and sometimes it shows strong, justified disagreement with Freud. It is noted that the dialogue of thinkers is interesting as highly intellectual communication on universal human issues, clearly reflecting the personal and scientific portraits of the authors for a modern researcher in the field of psychology, philosophy, sociology, and theoretical and practical education. There is a stated methodological value of the dialogue in question: through the opportunity offered to a reader to identify the correctness of the methods used: a) meaningful comparison of scientific positions; b) interpretation of quotes of the criticized opponent; c) defining the opponent's consideration as incomplete, unreasonably narrow, not reflecting the magnitude of the object under consideration; d) exposing the narrowed analysis perspective of the criticized author in a new integrity; e) analysis of the possibilities of applying the law of the excluded middle to particular cases; f) the possibility, based on a logical-meaningful synthesis, to identify those problems that have escaped the notice of the criticizing author.}, language = {en} } @article{Mujicaetal, author = {Mujica, Ernesto and et al.,}, title = {When the body speaks: A case discussion of bodily manifestations of introjection and identification with the aggressor}, series = {International Forum of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 34 (No. 1, 2025), pp. 037-046.}, journal = {International Forum of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 34 (No. 1, 2025), pp. 037-046.}, abstract = {This paper provides an analysis of the patient's somatic experiences and fantasies during the psychoanalytic psychotherapy of childhood relational trauma. The present text discusses, through Freud's conceptualization of >object,< the process leading to a possible objectification of mankind in consumerist societies. Later, Hegelian arguments are also used in an effort to differentiate >object of consumption< and >object of desire,< which are often interpreted as synonyms. Finally, contemporary authors are brought to the discussion to reflect on the effects of this confusion on contemporary subjects and their possible objectification. One might ask, then, whether the logic of consumption offers the illusion of omnipotence that places man in the position of master, that is, the illusion of independent consciousness. But isn't the individual actually being enslaved? Thus, from the reading of Hegel, Freud, and Žižek, we think that this is what transforms the subjects dominated by consumerism into objects of consumption themselves. He believes independent and authentic relationships are a higher expression of human potential and bring true fulfilment. Fromm identifies a creative, non-alienated character orientation that includes a 'humanistic conscience'. Comparing authoritarian and humanistic consciences, he emphasises human potential and social and individual interdependence. Personal development must also drive social change, and vice versa. Fromm's perspective rejects zero-sum, either/or thinking about social change vis-{\`a}-vis individual flourishing. For him, both are important, and they are related.
