turn in psychoanalysis: Jessica Benjamin (Gerhardt, Sweetnam, and Borton, 2000), Christopher Bollas (Gerhardt and Sweetnam 2001), and Darlene Ehrenberg. This paper describes aspects of the work of Ehrenberg and attempts to show how her trailblazing ideas of the therapeutic relationship and its nuanced particularities bear on issues in intersubjectivity theory. Ehrenberg's distinctive twist lies in her painstaking exploration of the processes of mutual influence in the ongoing therapeutic interaction and their bearing on the analytic process. The manner in which Ehrenberg attempts to integrate both interpersonal and intrapsychic perspectives and uses the interpersonal as a way of locating the intrapsychic is another focus of this inquiry. Moreover, the sense conveyed through Ehrenberg's voice - a voice both sensuous and strident, tender and provocative - in her attempt to make living, breathing contact in the moment with patients otherwise deadened to their own desire is also examined as bearing on issues associated with the intersubjective turn. While our own authorial positioning is never quite declared, our object relational biases exert their influence throughout our reading of her work, not surprising for a paper on intersubjectivity.}, language = {en} } @article{Gabbardetal, author = {Gabbard, Glen O. and et al.,}, title = {A Plea for Sincere Lies}, series = {Psychoanalytic Dialogues Vol. 02 (1992), pp. 037-076.}, journal = {Psychoanalytic Dialogues Vol. 02 (1992), pp. 037-076.}, language = {en} } @article{Gailetal, author = {Gail, Elizabeth and et al.,}, title = {Changes in Patients' Self-Representation over the Course of Psychotherapy}, series = {The Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 28 (2000), pp. 449-466.}, journal = {The Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 28 (2000), pp. 449-466.}, language = {en} } @article{Garfieldetal, author = {Garfield, David and et al.,}, title = {Models, Metaphors and Psychopathology: Commentary on Javanbakht's >Bugs and Bowls<}, series = {The Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 33 (2005), pp. 377-384.}, journal = {The Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 33 (2005), pp. 377-384.}, language = {en} } @article{Gastelumetal, author = {Gastelum, Emily D. and et al.,}, title = {Is That an Unconscious Fantasy or an Automatic Thought? Since a study of this kind involves charting the waxing and waning of something as elusive as the sense of personal existence, the task has, in the past, been seen as virtually impossible. However, words, or more particularly, the way words are used, manifest such shifting states. Sophisticated linguistic analyses are available, providing the means to conduct these necessary studies. This article suggests that an ongoing sense of personal existence, which William James called >self,< is multilayered, in the manner of the poetic, and that indices of such layering will reflect beneficial change. The description of this zone of experience, which might be called the synchronic, depends on contributions from Marcel Proust, Virginia Woolf, Henri Bergson, and Ferdinand de Saussure. Papers published in psychoanalytic journals play a fundamental role in teaching tasks. The historical separation of psychoanalytic practice from the research community and the university probably relates to the relative lack of empirical investigation and the contested status of research in general within the psychoanalytic community. In addition, there is not enough debate among different schools and orientations, making it very unlikely that creative solutions to theoretical and practical discussions will be found. Related to this, there seems to be a worrying deficit of recent references in psychoanalytic papers compared with general psychiatric journals or medical publications. This reflects a dangerous attitude of not paying attention to contemporary writers within our own field. Reasons behind this might be fear of confrontation with other colleagues, loyalty to our own dogmas and clinical practices, a system of training that promotes continuity, and even organizational structures that sustain this state of things. A renewed attention to research in psychoanalysis (conceptual, empirical, clinical-observational, etc.) and establishing ties to academic environments in the fields of natural and human sciences might improve this situation and offer a path towards collective theoretical and clinical development.}, language = {en} } @article{Grossmanetal, author = {Grossman, K. and et al.,}, title = {Maternal attachment representations as related to patterns of infant-mother attachment and maternal care during the first year}, series = {R. Therefore, we chose to analyze Enescu's >Œdipe< and Stravinsky's >Oedipus Rex<. Two distinct methodologies were used in our study. The first explored the concept of free association through musical themes in the operas. The second involved the comparative study of the Oedipus myth in order to provide a deeper understanding of Oedipus's character. We observed that Oedipus displayed symptoms of his complex through the traits of aggressiveness and arrogance. Moreover, we noticed that Oedipus was compelled by the necessity of finding out who his real parents were and by unconsciously accomplishing the prophecy. Oedipus assumed the responsibility to free the Thebans from plague. Yet, it was too late, for the feared part of the prophecy was already accomplished. He provided a wrong answer to the Sphinx and then received the most severe punishment, one that would have ostracism as its outcome. It was, however, not too late for Oedipus to finally discover who his real parents were. Nevertheless, afraid of losing his place as King of Thebes, he investigated the plague's causes.
