The Asian self is compared with the North American one, and Asian familial hierarchical relationships with American egalitarian ones, resulting in a different cultural structuring of selfobject relationships, including the psychoanalytic one. A comparative psychology of idealizing selfobject relationships is then developed. Intercultural encounters between Asians and North Americans in the United States reveal problems in the interface because of the different culturally influenced selfobject relationships.}, language = {en} } @article{Roland, author = {Roland, Alan}, title = {Freud in America}, series = {Psychoanalytic Dialogues Vol. 06 (1996), pp. 489-495.}, journal = {Psychoanalytic Dialogues Vol. 06 (1996), pp. 489-495.}, language = {en} } @article{Roland, author = {Roland, Alan}, title = {Psychoanalysis Across Civilizations: A Personal Journey}, series = {The Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 31 (2003), pp. 275-296.}, journal = {The Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 31 (2003), pp. 275-296.}, language = {en} } @article{Roland, author = {Roland, Alan}, title = {Psychoanalysis in India and Japan: Toward a comparative psychoanalysis}, series = {The American Journal of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 51 (1991), pp. 001-010.}, journal = {The American Journal of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 51 (1991), pp. 001-010.}, language = {en} } @article{Roland, author = {Roland, Alan}, title = {Sexuality, The Indian Extended Family, and Hindu Culture}, series = {The Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 19 (1991), pp. 595-605.}, journal = {The Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 19 (1991), pp. 595-605.}, language = {en} } @article{Roland, author = {Roland, Alan}, title = {Value Issues Involving Western Psychoanalysts with Asian Patients}, series = {The Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 23 (1995), pp. 283-292.}, journal = {The Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, Vol. 23 (1995), pp. 283-292.}, language = {en} }
