Stationary gas turbines are still an important part of today's power supply. With increasing temperature of the hot combustion gas inside a gas turbine, the efficiency factor of the turbine increases. For this reason, it is intended to operate turbines at the highest possible gas temperature. Therefore, in the combustion chamber and especially at the position of the first stage guide vanes the gas temperature needs to be measured reliably. To determine the gas temperature, one promising approach is the application of a non-contact measurement method using a radiation thermometer. A radiation thermometer can measure the gas temperature remotely from outside of the harsh environment. At ZAE Bayern, a high temperature and high pressure gas cell has been developed for this purpose in order to investigate gases and gas mixtures under defined conditions at high pressures and high temperatures. This gas cell can …

This publication explains based on the practice-oriented values management cycle how purposeful management of values will succeed.
Contemporary management of values as basis of sustainability in corporate development and governance and credible sustainable management takes into account visible and invisible factors from people and organization. Embedded in the basic understanding of questions of meaning, purpose and the worldviews of the acting people, it is a long-term task to identify, manage and further develop a unique portfolio of values that optimally connects and supports strategy in the company in a discourse-ethical and reflexive manner.
The present article addresses a hidden discrimination of homosexual people working at Germany’s largest employers in the social area: the Catholic and Protestant Churches and their Charities. On the one hand many of their employees are social workers; on the other hand these organisations showed repeatedly homophobic tendencies in the past. The study surveyed online more than 200 homosexual persons working at these organisations. The results showed that participants the less outed themselves at work the more they were afraid of becoming a target of workplace discrimination. Outing at work was more pronounced for Protestant organisations than for Catholic ones, while the result pattern was reversed with respect to participants’ fear of discrimination. In addition, we linked homosexuals’ tendencies to out themselves in private spaces to the political orientation of the federal states they lived in. It was found that private outing was lower in conservatively ruled federal states (CDU/CSU) compared to those governed by a left-liberal party (SPD). The discussion section focus on several recommendations on micro- and macro-levels how social work and social workers could help to normalise this conflictual situation.

Entrepreneurship, innovation and internationalisation are substantially interrelated. In an increasingly competitive world economy these are getting more importance. In 2000 at its Lizbon meeting, the European Council set the objective of making the European Union “the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world”. Entrepreneurship, innovation and internationalisation are essential ingredients of achieving such objectives as they are now three of the most important factors for growth and job creation in open market economies.
SMEs are also very important in many countries (as well as in Germany where they play a critical role in forming a middle class society so called Mittelstand that is also the backbone of the German economy). On the other hand, it seems that SMEs in general (and also many German SMEs are reluctant to invest in foreign countries though export orientation historically has been the case). There may me various factual and psychological reasons behind this approach. However, increasing economic integration among nations forces companies to be involved in international business much more than earlier. In this line, foreign direct investment (FDI) has also become as 2 important as export business. In fact, FDI is currently has a pivotal role for international trade flows. At present two third of the world trade volume is under the control of multinational companies. Interestingly, multinational companies are not generally large or big companies as is supposed by many. They are rather smaller companies involved in FDI and other foreign operation modes such as international franchising, contract manufacturing, licencing etc. Together with those internationalisation tendencies SME´s cannot resist against the progressive movement of digitalisation or Industry 4.0. For this reason and because of the fact that many small-sized multinationals are also family owned corporations, it seems that internationalisation is now not an option but a must for nearly all companies; small or big.
So far, the internationalisation of SMEs and family-owned small firms and also small multinationals have been studied relatively lesser than the potential. In this respect, the WIBF’s 3rd International Business Conference aimed to focus on international entrepreneurship and small firm internationalisation, and also on activities of small multinational companies.

This paper discusses the application of the Kingman formula as a means for verification and validation of a production simulation framework. It turns out that this approach generates more questions than answers. This leads to a more in-depth analysis of the Kingman equation properties and the need for refinement of the resulting quantities for the practitioner.
First, the one-stage queueing problem and its properties are analyzed. Then a discrete simulation model is implemented utilizing an industry standard factory simulation framework. A puzzling outcome is the observation that the simulation results match the Kingman approximation reasonably well at lower levels of utilization at which the Kingman equation itself is not very accurate, but they don’t match well at high levels of utilization at which the equation is more accurate. Alternative implementation means lead to similar results. It turns out that only one approach chosen utilizing the Lindley equation generates reasonable results, leaving the suggestion of accumulation of rounding errors as a source of the mismatch with all other approaches. The Kingman formula is applicable to general distribution patterns. Four common such patterns are employed and the results are compared to the Kingman equation, proving the point.
The paper finishes with recommendations for simulation verification, it advises against the use of stochastic phenomena models like the Kingman formula, it does however strongly advise for verification means in general, based on the experienced gathered during the course of the studies discussed herein.
