At present, a comprehensive set of measurement, modeling, analysis, simulation, and performance evaluation techniques are employed to investigate complex networks. A direct transfer of the developed engineering methodologies to related analysis and design tasks in next-generation energy networks, energy-efficient systems and social networks is enabled by a common mathematical foundation.
The International Workshop on "Demand Modeling and Quantitative Analysis of Future Generation Energy Networks and Energy-Efficient Systems" (FGENET 2014) and the International Workshop on "Modeling, Analysis and Management of Social Networks and their Applications" (SOCNET 2014) were held on March 19, 2014, at University of Bamberg in Germany as satellite symposia of the 17th International GI/ITG Conference on "Measurement, Modelling and Evaluation of Computing Systems" and "Dependability and Fault-Tolerance" (MMB & DFT 2014). They dealt with current research issues in next-generation energy networks, smart grid communication architectures, energy-efficient systems, social networks and social media. The Proceedings of MMB & DFT 2014 International Workshops summarizes the contributions of 3 invited talks and 13 reviewed papers and intends to stimulate the readers’ future research in these vital areas of modern information societies.
Educational systems have to respond to the worldwide change to prepare students for the
challenging tasks of a complex and uncertain world. Decentralization and school autonomy as
well as the accountability for outcomes are answers to local and global needs. School
empowerment implies teachers that take responsibility for the improvement of teaching and
learning. Accordingly, teacher training is supposed to qualify student teachers to cope with
growing charges. The article invites to reflect the empowering of student teachers in practical
settings. How may they strengthen through classroom experiences? The paper focuses on the
effects of practical settings and invites to discuss an innovative approach.
This collection of essays originated in the Summer School ‘Metaphysics or Modernity?’, which was held at the University of Bamberg in August 2012. Designed as a forum for graduate students in philosophy, the Summer School brought together a highly diverse group of young academics who – more often than not – came from utterly different schools and traditions of thought.
This pluralism is reflected in the pages of this book. While the volume is roughly divided into two halves – one with a more historical focus, the other with a more systematic focus – the reader will find an unusually wide array of topics and questions treated here. Since the aforementioned pluralism was one of the main strengths of our Summer School, this is something in which we take much pride
Dieser Tagungsband dokumentiert Ergebnisse der Herbsttagung des Arbeitskreises Grundschule in der Gesellschaft für Didaktik der Mathematik (GDM) in Tabarz vom 8. bis 10. November 2013 zum Thema „Mathematik vernetzt“. Das Rahmenthema der Tagung „Mathematik vernetzt“ wurde in fünf Hauptvorträgen im Plenum diskutiert. Zusätzlich setzten sich Arbeitsgruppen zu den klassischen Themenfeldern Arithmetik, Geometrie, Sachrechnen und Daten, Zufall & Wahrscheinlichkeit sowie Gruppen zu den Bereichen Kommunikation & Kooperation, Vorschulische Bildung, Lehren & Forschen mit Neuen Medien in der Primarstufe und Lehrerfortbildung intensiv mit aktuellen Forschungs- und Praxisfragen auseinander.
Aesthetic pleasure is a function of the perceiver’s processing dynamics. According to the Hedonic Fluency Model (Winkielman et al, 2003, in The Psychology of Evaluation: Affective processes in cognition and emotion J Musch and K C Klauer, Mahwah, Erlbaum), the perceptual fluency of a stimulus has an influence on affective judgments about this stimulus. This so-called Fluency Affect Link predicts higher positive judgments with increasing perceptual fluency. In the present experiment, stimuli of different levels of complexity and of positive as well as negative valence from the IAPS database were tested for their aesthetic appreciation. Perceptual fluency was manipulated through perceptual priming.
Contrary to the predictions of the Hedonic Fluency Model, participants’ (n = 20) aesthetic appreciation only benefited from fluency of stimuli with positive, but not with negative valence. Actually, stimuli with negative valence were judged more negative in the highly fluent than in the low fluent condition.
These findings are compatible with the Fluency Attribution Hypothesis (Jacoby et al, 1989, in Varieties of memory and consciousness: Essays in honour of Endel Tulving, H L Roediger and F I M Craik, Hillsdale, Erlbaum), asking for an adaptation of current research hypotheses often derived from the Hedonic Fluency Model.
